Food Pantry
May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness. May he defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy
Psalm 72:3-4
The Brown Church Food Pantry serves the towns of Conway, Eaton, Albany and Chatham. It is an essential support for many valley families. Families and individuals apply for support and are granted a variety of food and basic hygiene items.
Financial and food donations come from many community groups and individuals. The U.S.D.A., New Hampshire Food Bank, Sherman Farms and local markets such as Hannaford, Shaws and Walmart provide many food commodities to stock our shelves and refrigerators.
Our food pantry annually distributes Thanksgiving Baskets which include all of the ingredients for a full holiday meal from the turkey (and the pan to cook it in) to the pumpkin pie for approximately 75 households.
Approximately 20 volunteers work during the year to pick up and sort donations, stock shelves, rotate food items and package food and other items for pickup each week. Church and community volunteers donate over 2000 hours to provide this vital service to the community.
Volunteer Opportunities:
If you drive a Pick-up truck we are need of drivers to pick up donations from area grocery stores and the monthly pick-up from the State Food Bank.
We need folks to help unload the trucks and stock the shelves
Each Thanksgiving we hand out about 70 baskets containing a complete dinner with the bird and all the fixin’s. Help is always needed and welcome to put these baskets together for our neighbors.
Access to the food pantry for our clients is essential to serve them. An additional parking area, as well as, ramps and lifts are necessary to allow clients in the community to obtain their food items. Our existing parking area is limited, as it is shared with another business and is sometimes difficult to access during inclement weather. Our goal is to provide the space for safe and easy access to the pantry for our clients and food deliveries.
Any pictures of children will be replaced with ones from this year which we will have permission to use
